Known earlier as Port Haney, Maple Ridge became the 3rd municipality incorporated into the new province of B.C. in 1874. The place is named after John McIver, an owner of a farm, who decided to settle on a ridge near the Fraser River back in 1860. With lots of maple trees on his land in mind, the farmer named his settlement Maple Ridge. The northern landscape features The Golden Ears, called so for two eminent mountain peaks.
